REF: ANNUAL YOUTH CAMP OF VOKOLI YEARLY MEETING HELD AT KIGAMA FRIENDS CHURCH
We greet you all in the name of Jesus Christ.
Our young Friends programme, 9th Annual Conference was held at Kigama Friends Church from 13th to 17th April, 2005.
Kigama is a name which was derived from a tree called “kigama mbinga”. This was a place where people gathered to worship and thereafter they built a church there. Kigama Friends Church was found in 1913 and the pioneer founder being Yohana Amugune and Nicodemus Malenge assisted by other leaders who were Isaiah Lungaho, Reuben Mukidanyi and Moses Kememwa.
Kigama is situated off Chavakali – Kapsabet road branching on your right at Mudete Market approximately two kilometers along Mudete – Kegoye Road. It is in Kigama village, Kigama sub-location, North Maragoli location, Sabatia Division, Vihiga District in Western Province of Kenya.
The climatic conditions in this area is hot and wet. Among the activities practiced in this area are livestock rearing, which include cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, etc. and cash crops include tea, maize and bananas. The people also practice trade.
The conference was officially opened by the General Superintendent, Vokoli Yearly meeting of Friends, Pastor Timothy Kisago, where he gave a word from the book of 2 Timothy 2:15-16 and through that he encouraged the youths to work hard towards good leadership.
The theme of the conference was extracted from the book of Acts 2:22-24 which was “God’s set purpose for man” and it was explored by Pastor Simeon Bulimu of Friends Theological at Kaimosi.
Other topics covered were:
-Message of commitment by Pastor Harris Aluchula
-A keynote speech by the Presiding Clerk of Young Friends programme, Josephat Egodi.
HIV/AIDS by Jamindas Group who were Hytone Mwichuli and Benard Mulavi.
-Prayer and Fasting by John Bureza.
-Eschatology by Dave McKay.
-Christian attitudes toward education and work by Erick Mahagwa.
-Deliverance by Pastor Harris Aluchula, assisted by the main speaker, Pastor Simeon Bulimu
-Christian maturity by Pastor John Musanga.
We also had other activities which were group discussions conducted by Enock Ilavuna and Crusade by Pastor Henry Agalomba Sabatia. The camp was a blessed one whereby it had 120 registered delegates and the daily attendance was more 400 people including visitors from other organizations like Friends United Meeting. A number of the faithfuls received salvation.
The Presiding Clerk, Vokoli Yearly Meeting of Friends, Mr. Seth Chayugah gave a word of encouragement to the youths to look forward for a good future.
