Quaker Peace Initiatives in Africa
- African Great Lakes Initiative: The
African Great Lakes Initiative (AGLI) of the Friends Peace Teams
strengthens, supports, and promotes peace activities at the grassroots
level in Burundi, Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. Responds
to requests from local religious and non-government organizations
that focus on conflict management, peace building, trauma healing

- Quaker Peace Network: Works at
building peace in areas of conflict, such as Burundi, Rwanda and
Congo.
- American Friends Service Committee: Is
a Quaker organization based in Philadelphia, in the United States.
They have regional offices in Africa, one for the Great Lakes in
Burundi and for Southern Africa in Lesotho. Their main focus is
on peace initiatives, relief and rehabilitation in conflict areas

- Change Agent for Peace Programme (CAPP): Quaker organization
that is funded by Norwegian Yearly Meeting that focuses on training
people on alternative to violence, peace activities. Focussing
mainly in the Great Lakes region. The office is at Friends International
Centre, Nairobi. Operates under the auspices of FWCC- Africa Section.
- Alternatives to Violence Programme (AVP): The
Alternatives to Violence Programme was founded by Friends in the
U.S. and has branched out to include a range of people. Branches
conduct workshops designed to train people in methods of resolving
conflicts in non-violent ways. AVP operates with the help of volunteers
and provides certificates to participants who complete the 3 day

- Quaker Peace Centre: Officially
founded in 1988, the Peace Centre in Capetown, South Africa, arose
out of a concern for the people affected by forced removals and
apartheid. Aims to build a non-violent society where diversity
is celebrated, the energies of conflict are turned into a positive
transforming power and the democratic rights of every individual
are respected, protected and pursued. Currently runs programmes
in prisons and schools and offers a range of courses including
anti-racism, assertiveness, mediation, classroom management, conflict
